Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten

With our chores almost done, we’re getting anxious to head on.  A lot of people left today (weather is great) but we aren’t quite ready.  We still need to reinstall our mainsail before we go anywhere.  Luckily, tomorrow’s weather still looks good so that is our goal.  We’re only planning on going the few miles down to Philipsburg.  It’s the cruise ship port for St. Maarten so it’ll have all the cute little shops/etc but it’s also supposed to have an awesome beach.  We’ll see.

In the morning, we went ashore and I worked on internet stuff again while Larry did the last fuel runs.  We put in a total of 73 gallons.  The generator uses about .5 gallons/hour and the engine uses about .75 gallons/hour.  We averaged about .6 gals/hour for the fuel used.

In the afternoon, we reinstalled the mainsail.  Looking good!  We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the remainder of the sail will last for a very long time.  Outlaying 4-5 grand is going to hurt badly!  If anyone knows how we can get a sail manufacturer to sponsor us and comp us a sail, PLEASE let us know!!!

We haven’t eaten out much lately so we decided to go to a restaurant for a treat.  We picked the restaurant at one of the nearby marinas.  It was Jimbo’s Mesquite Grill.  What an experience.  First, the mosquitoes were horrible!  They gave us some Skin-So-Soft bug spray but it didn’t seem to do much at all.  I think the mosquitoes have acquired a taste for it!  Next, Larry ordered a beer and I got a glass of wine.  It was happy hour so the drinks were 2 for 1.  After a couple of sips of wine, I noticed the glass had ‘stuff’ on the inside.  The waitress said it was probably where they wipe them down with paper towel but it disgusted me nonetheless.  I sent it back and she brought me a clean glass.

We ordered their Grande Nachos with beef.  Very disappointing.  The beef was almost like meatballs … just a few large clumps of meat on top of the pile … not nicely ground and spread throughout like you would usually get back home.  But the worst part was when I realized … I think they may actually do the unmentionable and use leftover food from other people’s plates … MAJOR YUCK!!!!  Our salsa had a piece of lettuce in it. Just one piece … why?  The nachos came with refried beans (which were very dry and lumpy) and one clump of beans had a grilled onion in it (like maybe from fajitas) … MAJOR YUCK AGAIN!!!!

I couldn’t finish eating once I came to this conclusion.  Now granted, this is only my opinion and we did not confront the waitress/management but it kind of ruined our ‘treat’ of a nice meal out!
