Lindbergh Bay, St. Thomas, USVI

Our plan was to spend another day at Culebrita and just relax and enjoy the awesome beach area.  BUT … we were both so active yesterday, we were kind of sore all over.  We drank coffee in the cockpit and tried to figure out what our bodies could endure today!  We concluded, we would leave this area and finally head for St. Thomas.  The forecast was for very mild winds (less than 3 knots) so we knew it would be a motor trip.  But … as we readied the boat for departure, we noticed, the winds were already 8-10 knots (not as projected).  We looked at each other and hoped the same thing … will we actually be able to sail today???

YES!!!  We rounded the point and the winds were completely in our favor.  They were topping out at about 17 knots and were blowing from the south-west.  We were headed east-northeast so this was perfect!  We raised the sails, shut off the motor and, for the first time in a VERY long time … we sailed … completely sailed!  It was a wonderful way to put the past behind us and sail into our future!

Even though as we got closer to St. Thomas, the winds dropped, we were still able to do about 3-3.5 knots.  There are many times that this would annoy us to hell and we’d simply start the motor for a bit more speed but today … well we were enjoying the motion and sounds of strictly sailing.  Besides, we really didn’t have far to go so even if the entire trip were at this speed, we’d still be there in time to relax and enjoy a nice glass of wine before the sun set.  In reality, since we had made such great time for the first portion of the trip, we were anchored in Lindbergh Bay around 2pm.

Lindbergh Bay is only a couple of miles from Charlotte-Amalie.  We will probably go there tomorrow and clear customs, do the routine stuff that needs to be done and then anchor a bit away from town in the protected anchorages of Water Island.

Larry is taking a nap as I write this.  It is good to see him so relaxed finally.  We’ve had some awesome experiences getting to this point.  Most were amazing … some a little troublesome.  But we are here now.  We need to slow down, stop and smell the roses and enjoy the life we’ve made for each other.  I am the luckiest girl on this planet to have found such an awesome mate!  Thank you Larry for all that you do and all that you are!

Almost forgot … when it got dark, Larry put out our green, fluorescent, underwater light to see what it would attract.  He was very pleased.  After a few minutes, he began to see all kinds of little creatures around the light.  He used his net and scooped up a bunch of tiny fish (only an inch or two long) and other worm-like creatures.  He even caught a small shrimp.  He used the tiny fish on his rod and was able to catch some larger fish.  Still too small to filet but at least now we have bait again!  We will have to see what this bait can get us down the road.
