Approximately 3:15pm, we were settled and anchored off the
east side of Shroud Cay, sheltered nicely from the northwest winds. It was a little “rocky” at times but
overall, a nice anchorage. Larry took
the time to figure out how to bring in weather with the software on the
computer … over his short wave radio!
Amazing! No Internet or anything
and he can hook up his little short wave receiver to our computer and pull in
all sorts of weather charts. If you
listen to it, it’s just humming, chirping and other weird noises but the
computer interprets that “noise” into actual charts we can read! Weather (or lack of knowing the weather) was
one of my biggest concerns. Larry …
you’re my hero!

Nassau to Shroud Cay, Bahamas
We made a point to wake early and listen to the weather at
6:30am. There was a small craft
advisory and they advised people to stay put.
They said it was extremely rough with seas of 6-8 feet and swells in
excess of 12 feet. Where we were, it
looked wonderful! Since we were headed
across the banks and not out into the deep, open water, we decided to venture
out regardless of the weather prediction.
We thought if things got too rough, we would turn and head back to the
sheltered waters. What an awesome
decision! We had an amazing sail across
the yellow banks and into Shroud Cay.
We averaged about 6 knots and exceeded 8 knots for a while. It was relatively calm and a VERY
comfortable sail. Glad we didn’t listen
to the weather and stay put. This was
the perfect day for sailing!
