Luperon, Dominican Republic

We were hoping we’d be able to leave tonight, sailing thru the night down the coastline to another harbor.  No such luck.  I still feel like crap and now Larry is having the same issues (with only mild cramping).  We did manage to go into town and spend some money.  We’d exchanged $130 US into 5252 pesos and we still had almost 2000 pesos left.  We bought some much needed Pepto Bismol at the pharmacy (185 pesos), some fruits/veggies (that took up a whole 155 pesos), 2 small bottles and 1 large bottle of Dominican Republic rum (560 pesos).  Larry had a beer and I had a water (another 90 pesos) and we had planned on eating lunch ashore until my cramping was so bad, I just wanted to get back to the boat.

Larry dropped me off, gave me some soup, made himself a sandwich and went back to shore.  He spent another 287 pesos on a few groceries and 175 pesos on Phillips Milk of Magnesia (oops, that does the opposite of what Pepto Bismol does so we’ll just save it in our medicine stash). So … we still have almost 500 pesos remaining (about $12US).  Guess it won’t kill us to leave with that money still in foreign currency and just write it off as a loss.

While Larry was ashore, he also stopped by the Comandancia’s office to see how we would clear out.  We both feel like crap but are hoping by tomorrow night, we can head out.  The Comandancia told him to come by in the morning but that he’d have to visit the other offices where he’d checked in before seeing the Comandancia.  Oh no … how much is this going to cost us.  Maybe that’s why no one ever leaves???

Settled back on the boat, Larry and I took a nap.  We both felt horrible and took trips to the head (bathroom).  Thank God we have two heads because they sure got their use today.  Can’t imagine what we picked up but we’re just praying time will get rid of it and it’s not one of those things where you require medication … or, we may just be back in Luperon to get rid of this “thing”!
